The Story

The Enphase IQ8MC Microinverter (model IQ8MC-72-M-INT) is the entry point of the IQ8 Series for UK residential and commercial solar installations. Rated at 330 W maximum AC output with a 97.5% peak efficiency (96.7% EU weighted), it is optimised for 54-cell to 72-cell modules — including all modern half-cell (108 to 144 half-cell) and full-cell variants — and connects to the grid at 230 V / 50 Hz. Like all IQ8 Series microinverters, it uses Stäubli MC4 DC connectors and the Enphase IQ Cable for AC connection, features module-level rapid shutdown, and communicates with the IQ Gateway via powerline communication (PLC). CE marked, certified to G98, G99, and G100, and backed by a 25-year limited warranty with connected IQ Gateway. Source: UK datasheet DSH-00198-5.0, March 2026.

⚠ Installer Requirement: Installation requires Enphase IQ Cable for AC connection. Stäubli MC4 DC connectors are integrated. A connected IQ Gateway is required for the 25-year warranty and for advanced grid functions. Comply with G98/G99 DNO notification requirements as applicable.
⚠ Module Pairing: The IQ8MC has a DC MPP voltage window of 25–45 V and a maximum module Isc of 20 A (with 1.25 safety factor per IEC 62548). The maximum DC input voltage is 60 V. Verify module compatibility using the Enphase calculator at enphase.com/en-gb/installers/microinverters/calculator.
ℹ IQ7 Backward Compatibility: IQ8 microinverters can be added to existing IQ7 system sites (Solar Only or Solar + Battery grid-tied configurations). IQ7 units cannot be added to sites where IQ8 units are already installed on the same gateway.
Wide Module Compatibility

The IQ8MC supports 54-cell/108 half-cell through 72-cell/144 half-cell modules — the most common form factors in residential installations. No enforced DC/AC ratio means modules up to the MPP voltage limit can be paired without mandatory de-rating, giving installers maximum flexibility in panel selection.

480 W Max DC Input

The IQ8MC accepts up to 480 W DC input power (Pdcmax). Pairing a higher-wattage module with this microinverter will result in some clipping at peak irradiance, but Enphase's compatibility calculator models annual yield against clipping losses — and clipping is typically small at UK irradiance levels.

Burst Mode Low-Light Production

Enphase's patented Burst Mode keeps the IQ8MC producing at very low light levels where competing inverter technologies would otherwise drop out. This particularly benefits UK installations where overcast skies are common, adding meaningful annual kWh without requiring any configuration.

25-Year Warranty — Outlasts the Panels

The IQ8 Series carries an industry-leading 25-year limited warranty — longer than most PV module manufacturer warranties and matched only by Enphase's own higher-tier IQ8 models. This warranty is backed by more than one million cumulative power-on hours of reliability testing.

Class II — No Array Earthing Needed

The IQ8MC's Class II double-insulated design means the PV array does not require a separate DC earth conductor. This simplifies racking earthing design, reduces cable cost, and removes a common source of ground fault issues in residential string inverter systems.

Passive Cooling — Rooftop Reliable

With no moving parts and natural convection cooling, the IQ8MC operates silently and has no fan failure mode. The IP67-rated polymer enclosure is unaffected by rain, condensation, or UK coastal environments — maintaining performance across the full -40°C to +65°C operating range.

How does the IQ8MC differ from the IQ8AC and IQ8HC?
All three share the same physical form factor, IP67 rating, and UK grid certifications. The difference is output power: IQ8MC = 330 W, IQ8AC = 366 W, IQ8HC = 384 W. The IQ8MC also has a lower minimum MPP voltage (25 V vs 28 V / 29.5 V), making it slightly better suited to lower-Vmp modules. Choose based on the Vmp of your panel and the desired DC/AC matching.
Can the IQ8MC be used on a three-phase property?
Yes. In a three-phase property, IQ8MC units are distributed across L1, L2, and L3 using the three-phase IQ Cable, which automatically balances phase loading. Up to 33 IQ8MC units can be connected per three-phase 20A circuit, and up to 18 units per IQ Cable section.
What is the maximum module wattage I can pair with the IQ8MC?
There is no enforced DC/AC ratio — you can pair modules above 480 W DC, but output above 480 W will be clipped. In practice, for UK irradiance conditions, pairing modules up to approximately 400–430 W is common with minimal clipping. Use the Enphase compatibility calculator to model clipping losses for your specific module choice.
Is an IQ Gateway required?
The IQ Gateway is required for the 25-year warranty to apply, for monitoring via the Enphase App and Installer Platform, and for advanced grid functions including G100 Power Export Limiting. Without a gateway the microinverters will still function, but at a reduced warranty level and without monitoring or PEL.
Does the IQ8MC support G100 export limiting?
Yes — Power Export Limiting (PEL) is a supported advanced grid function. It requires an IQ Gateway Metered with correctly installed CT clamps to measure import/export at the grid connection point. G100 compliance is a grid profile applied via the IQ Gateway configuration.
