The Enphase IQ8AC Microinverter (Three-Phase Installation) (model IQ8AC-72-M-INT) is the IQ8AC fitted in a three-phase IQ Cable system for balanced distribution across 230/400 V three-phase supplies. Each microinverter outputs a single phase at 230 V L-N — but by connecting units in groups of three using the three-phase IQ Cable, the installed array is automatically balanced across L1, L2, and L3. This makes the IQ8AC an effective and DNO-compliant solution for commercial rooftops, larger residential properties, and any G99-notified installation requiring a balanced three-phase connection. The microinverter itself is rated at 366 W maximum AC output, 97.3% peak efficiency, operates at -40°C to +65°C with an IP67 enclosure, and is certified to G98, G99, and G100. Source: UK datasheet DSH-00198-5.0, March 2026.
The three-phase IQ Cable incorporates four conductors (L1, L2, L3, Neutral) in a single cable run. When microinverters plug into the three-phase cable drops, their output is automatically assigned to alternating phases in sequence — eliminating the need to manually track and assign phase connections during installation. This significantly reduces commissioning time on larger commercial arrays.
On a standard three-phase 20A circuit with 2.5 mm² IQ Cable, up to 30 IQ8AC microinverters can be connected — giving up to 10.98 kW AC per circuit. For large commercial rooftops, multiple circuits can be combined through the IQ Gateway to build arrays far beyond the single-phase limitations.
The IQ8AC supports Power Export Limiting (G100), phase imbalance management, and loss of phase detection — features that are specifically relevant to three-phase commercial G99 applications where DNOs impose generation or export conditions. These functions are configured through the IQ Gateway Metered once CTs are installed.
On commercial rooftops with equipment, skylights, or plant rooms causing partial shading, microinverter systems outperform string inverters because shading one panel does not reduce output from neighbouring panels. Each IQ8AC operates at its own MPPT, so complex shade patterns on commercial roofs are handled without optimisers or string re-designs.
Module-level rapid shutdown is inherent to all IQ8 microinverters — required under fire safety standards for commercial rooftop PV. When the IQ Gateway de-energises the AC bus (via the IQ Relay or IQ System Controller), each IQ8AC immediately reduces its DC operating voltage. No separate per-module rapid shutdown devices are required.
The IQ8AC uses the same IQ8 Series form factor (212 × 175 × 30.2 mm) as all other IQ8 72-cell models. This allows a three-phase system to be expanded by adding further IQ Cable branches and microinverters as available roof area or budget allows — without replacing existing units or the IQ Gateway.
