The Story

The EHC Comet PV 14.4kW Electric Boiler & 200L Direct Cylinder Package (EHCEPV14.4/200) pairs a multi-output electric system boiler, field-configurable across 7.2 / 9.6 / 12.0 / 14.4kW, with a 200-litre Neptune Direct Unvented Stainless Steel Cylinder. Unlike an indirect cylinder, the Direct cylinder is heated purely by its own twin 3kW immersion elements, so the boiler is dedicated entirely to space heating — a straightforward configuration for properties with lower hot water demand or where heating and hot water are intentionally kept independent.

Qualified Installation Required

This boiler must be installed, commissioned, and electrically connected by a qualified electrician in accordance with BS7671. The unvented cylinder is a controlled service under Building Regulation G3 (England & Wales), Technical Standard P3 (Scotland), or Building Regulation Part F (Northern Ireland) and must only be fitted by a competent, G3-qualified installer. A magnetic filter must be fitted to the boiler — failure to do so will invalidate the manufacturer's warranty.

Boiler Dedicated to Space Heating

Because the Direct cylinder heats independently via its own immersion elements, the Comet PV boiler in this package can be commissioned for heating only, simplifying control wiring where a separate, self-contained hot water solution is preferred. The boiler retains its full feature set — Solar PV integration, weather compensation, and optional Smart App control via the C.MI2 Internet Module — for the heating circuit.

Direct Cylinder Has No Faster-Reheat Coil

Unlike the equivalent Indirect (200IND) package, this Direct cylinder has no internal coil connected to the boiler's primary circuit — all hot water is generated by the two 3kW immersion elements. Recovery time will be slower than an Indirect cylinder of the same capacity. Where a property has high or frequent hot water demand, consider the Indirect (EHCEPV14.4/200IND) or Pre-Plumbed Indirect (EHCEPV14.4/200PPC) packages instead.

Field-Configurable Output

A single boiler chassis covers 7.2, 9.6, 12.0, or 14.4kW via an on-board DIP switch, so installers can right-size the heat output to the building's calculated heat loss without stocking multiple boiler models.

Simple, Self-Contained Hot Water

With hot water generated entirely by the cylinder's own immersion elements, the system requires no primary coil plumbing between boiler and cylinder, simplifying pipework for heating-only boiler installations.

Weather Compensation

An outdoor temperature sensor (Tos) lets the boiler's controller adjust flow temperature to a selectable heating curve, reducing energy use during milder weather while maintaining comfort during cold snaps.

Twin Immersion Elements

The 200L Direct cylinder's two 3kW Incoloy elements allow for boost and economy heating modes, giving flexibility over how quickly and how much hot water is heated at any one time.

Duplex Stainless Steel Build

The cylinder's inner vessel is TIG welded from Duplex stainless steel and factory pressure-tested to 15 bar, giving strong corrosion resistance for long service life.

Solar PV & Smart Control Ready

The boiler's FN input can be wired to a solar PV inverter's load-management relay to divert surplus generation into space heating, and the optional C.MI2 module unlocks remote app control.

Why choose a Direct cylinder instead of Indirect?
A Direct cylinder is a simpler installation with no primary coil pipework between boiler and cylinder, making it a straightforward choice where hot water demand is modest or where heating and hot water are being kept as separate systems.
Is the boiler output still adjustable?
Yes. The Comet PV Model 2 chassis is field-configurable between 7.2, 9.6, 12.0, and 14.4kW using the on-board DIP switches and the boiler's on-screen configuration menu.
How is the cylinder heated?
Entirely by its two 3kW Incoloy immersion elements — there is no boiler-connected coil in this Direct cylinder, unlike the Indirect version of this package.
Is a magnetic filter included?
No. A magnetic filter is not included but is a mandatory fit on all Comet PV boiler installations — omitting one will invalidate the manufacturer's boiler warranty.
Can this boiler still integrate with solar PV?
Yes, the FN input supports solar PV load-management wiring for the heating circuit, independent of the cylinder's own immersion-based hot water heating.
